Once someone gets arrested in Santa Monica, unless they require critical medical attention, they will be taken to the Santa Monica Police Department, which is situated at 333 Olympic Dr. Santa Monica, CA 90401. When the defendant arrives at the police station, they will be required to submit their personal belongings for safekeeping until their time at the jail is over.

 

Getting arrested is usually as exhausting and tiring as it sounds. The procedure contains multiple steps the defendant has to go through, starting with the booking process.

 

The process consists of:

 

• Taking your name and other personal information.

The first step of any booking process is to ask a variety of personal questions. It starts with a normal conversation with the police officer at the department.

 

• Taking a personal picture (Mug Shot)

A mug shot is taken as part of the arrest record. The department uses these photos to record the defendant's physical appearance.

 

• Taking the defendant's fingerprints

Fingerprints are recorded and sent to the Department of Justice's database by a Live Scan machine. The information is examined to determine if the defendant is wanted in any other department or state.

 

After the results come back and the defendant gets cleared for bail, a court date gets set and a bail amount instated. When we find out that the defendant got cleared out for bail, we will verify some information with you and have you fill out some paperwork necessary for the jail release process at the Santa Monica Jail.

 

Once we finish all the paperwork necessary, we will then turn it all into the police department, where it gets verified, and proceed to complete the final steps of the jail release process.

​This release process could take anywhere from an hour to several hours, depending on how busy the jail is. When your loved one is out of jail on a bond, they must appeal all their court dates, or the court will put out a bench warrant.
